“Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor” (Proverbs 18:12). Like lightning before thunder, one always comes before the other.

“The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10). This week’s challenge: say the name of Jesus out loud every day.

“A lazy person is as bad as someone who destroys things” (Proverbs 18:9). Neglect can be just as destructive as active destruction — it just takes longer to notice.

“Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one’s heart” (Proverbs 18:8). Some things we regret aren’t a mystery at all — we knew exactly how they got in.

“Doing wrong leads to disgrace, and scandalous behavior brings contempt” (Proverbs 18:3). Falls from grace are common, but they’re often avoidable long before they make the news.

“Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions” (Proverbs 18:2). Social media has no shortage of opinions — what it lacks is people seeking to understand.

"Unfriendly people care only about themselves; they lash out at common sense" (Proverbs 18:1). Selfishness leaves you on an island — friendless, not misunderstood.

"Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent" (Proverbs 17:28). Sometimes love speaks loudest through presence, not words.

"A truly wise person uses few words" (Proverbs 17:27). Choosing your words carefully takes more restraint than letting them all pour out.

"The discerning sets his face toward wisdom, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth" (Proverbs 17:24). Like Jesus setting His face toward Jerusalem, purpose means refusing distraction.

"A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones" (Proverbs 17:22). Joy isn’t just felt — it can be chosen and nurtured.

"A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need" (Proverbs 17:17). Real help means acting, not just offering.

"He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord" (Proverbs 17:15). Truth and justice matter more than which side we’re rooting for.

"Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate, so stop before a dispute breaks out" (Proverbs 17:14). Prevention beats damage control every time.

"He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, but he who repeats or gossips about a matter separates intimate friends" (Proverbs 17:9). You can't change your history, but you can change your grip on it.

"Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished" (Proverbs 17:5). How we see the poor reveals how we see their Maker.

"An evildoer listens to wicked lips, and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue" (Proverbs 17:4). What we expose ourselves to shapes what we become.

"The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests hearts" (Proverbs 17:3). Every test serves confirmation and progression.

"A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who acts shamefully" (Proverbs 17:2). Wisdom, not heritage, determines your fate.

"Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife" (Proverbs 17:1). Peace feeds the soul in ways a feast never can.
