How to Stay Out of the Headlines
How to Stay Out of the Headlines
"Doing wrong leads to disgrace, and scandalous behavior brings contempt." Proverbs 18:3 NLT Hey did you hear about the new corduroy pillows? They are making headlines all over town! I know, I know a bad dad joke, but illustrative of my devotional thought. There are a few things you can do to avoid making headlines that you do not want. Headlines like: Disgrace Scandal Contempt Disgrace, Scandal and Contempt. Reads like today's headlines. Whether it be celebrities, athletes, business executives or politicians it seems like it s all too common to read of someone who has fallen. That is where they ended up, but perhaps many times it could have been avoided. How can I avoid being in the headlines? This week's Proverb tells us that "doing wrong leads to disgrace." As you may already know there is a difference between sin and transgression. Sin comes from an archery term that means "missing the mark". Not quite making it. Transgression describes something else. Transgression is a purposeful pursuit of wrongdoing. Transgression, doing wrong, leads to disgrace. Staying out of the headlines means that we steer clear of transgressions. Don't do things that you know are wrong. Simple statement, I know, but one that will require regular self examination. Paul put it this way: "Test and evaluate yourselves to see whether you are in the faith and living your lives as [committed] believers. Examine yourselves [not me]! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves [by an ongoing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test and are rejected as counterfeit?2 Corinthians 13:5 AMP Maybe a few practical questions would help
- Are you doing something that you know is wrong but are continuing to do anyway?
- Is there something that you are doing that you used to think was wrong, but now have accepted it as "just the way I am?"
- Is what you are currently doing leading you towards or leading you away from the Lord?
- Is what you are doing for God's glory
- Would you want your name in the headlines next to what you are doing?
This week, examine yourselves and stay out of the headlines! In His Hands, JohnFeatured BlogsMedia
