Work + Faith Matters Blog
Perspectives on faith, leadership, culture, and the challenges facing today's Christian professionals.
Imitation Treasure
“Wealth makes many ‘friends’; poverty drives them all away” (Proverbs 19:4). Some treasures only look valuable — genuine relationships are worth more than any imitation.
Consequences of Foolishness
“People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord” (Proverbs 19:3). Temptation comes from our own desires, not from God.
Nurturing a Joyful Heart
"A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones" (Proverbs 17:22). Joy isn’t just felt — it can be chosen and nurtured.
Truth and Justice
"He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord" (Proverbs 17:15). Truth and justice matter more than which side we’re rooting for.
Don't Open the Floodgate
"Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate, so stop before a dispute breaks out" (Proverbs 17:14). Prevention beats damage control every time.
When You See the Poor
"Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished" (Proverbs 17:5). How we see the poor reveals how we see their Maker.
Exposure Warning
"An evildoer listens to wicked lips, and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue" (Proverbs 17:4). What we expose ourselves to shapes what we become.
The Wise Servant
"A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who acts shamefully" (Proverbs 17:2). Wisdom, not heritage, determines your fate.
A Dry Morsel is Better
"Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife" (Proverbs 17:1). Peace feeds the soul in ways a feast never can.
Would You Rather?
"Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city" (Proverbs 16:32). What you'd rather have reveals what's really in your heart.
Pleasant Words Are Persuasive
"The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive" (Proverbs 16:21). How you say it shapes whether it's heard.
Prosperity And A Joy Filled Living
"Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the Lord will be joyful" (Proverbs 16:20). No book can hand you what only trust and instruction can build.
Stay Out Of The Pit!
"Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18). No one is above stumbling — take heed lest you fall.
Money and People
"How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgment than silver" (Proverbs 16:16). It's not what you have, but what it does to you, that matters.
Having a Little with Godliness
"Better to have little, with godliness, than to be rich and dishonest" (Proverbs 16:8). Competition can sharpen you — but only within honest limits.
Enemies at Peace
"When people's lives please the Lord, even their enemies are at peace with them" (Proverbs 16:7). Peace with others often starts with pleasing God first.
Steadfast Love and Faithfulness
"By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for" (Proverbs 16:6). When words and actions don't match, love is what's missing.
A Key to Success
"Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed" (Proverbs 16:3). Success looks different in the eternal than it does in the world.
