“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked” (Proverbs 24:16). Trials aren’t the point; getting back up is.

“Don’t excuse yourself by saying, ‘Look, we didn’t know.’ For God understands all hearts, and he sees you” (Proverbs 24:12). On the difference between honest ignorance and the lie of convenient ignorance.

“Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die; save them as they stagger to their death” (Proverbs 24:11). A call to act, not just notice, when we see innocent life in danger.

“If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small” (Proverbs 24:10). Faith is like a muscle: the training happens before the pressure comes, not in the middle of it.

“The wise are mightier than the strong, and those with knowledge grow stronger and stronger” (Proverbs 24:5). Training for godliness pays off further than training for physical strength alone.

“A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables” (Proverbs 24:3-4). What we choose to keep in our homes shapes how we feel living in them.

“Don’t gaze at the wine, seeing how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup, how smoothly it goes down. For in the end it bites like a poisonous snake” (Proverbs 23:31-33). On surrendering control to God rather than giving it away to a substance.

“Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding” (Proverbs 23:23). Four things worth every price you pay for them, and worth never selling once you have them.

“Do not carouse with drunkards or feast with gluttons, for they are on their way to poverty” (Proverbs 23:19-21). Effective traps rarely look like traps; the bait always looks appealing.

“Don’t envy sinners, but always continue to fear the Lord” (Proverbs 23:17-18). Social media’s highlight reels hide the consequences; envy them and you’re envying a lie.

“Commit yourself to instruction; listen carefully to words of knowledge” (Proverbs 23:12). Peter Drucker’s principle applies to spiritual growth too: what gets tracked gets improved.

“Don’t waste your breath on fools, for they will despise the wisest advice” (Proverbs 23:9). Speaking truth in love is our job; changing minds is God’s.

“Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit” (Proverbs 23:4-5). Wealth is easy to chase and hard to keep; knowing when enough is enough is the harder skill.

“Don’t cheat your neighbor by moving the ancient boundary markers set up by previous generations” (Proverbs 22:28). A caution against judging past generations’ decisions by knowledge they never had.

“A person who gets ahead by oppressing the poor or by showering gifts on the rich will end in poverty” (Proverbs 22:16). Climbing by stepping on others is a ladder that eventually collapses.

“The lazy person claims, ‘There’s a lion out there! If I go outside, I might be killed!’” (Proverbs 22:13). If it’s important to you, you’ll find a way; if not, you’ll find an excuse.

“Whoever loves a pure heart and gracious speech will have the king as a friend” (Proverbs 22:11). It’s not just who you know, it’s who you become that shapes the friendships you form.

“Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7). Beyond financial debt, there’s a good debt worth being mindful of and acting on.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). Thinking of this verse as a recipe: an instruction paired with an anticipated result.

“Humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life” (Proverbs 22:4). Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.
